Well, it’s January 6, and getting into the evening. A snowstorm has been on the way and is supposed to break any time now. But at the moment? Nothing.
So far it’s a “no shnow”!
It’s not like this hasn’t been predicted for the past week or so. And it’s not like there’s been any actual snow yet this season in this neck of the woods. But to see how everyone is reacting has been interesting, to say the least.
Target has been backed up for hours with their drive-up service. The supermarkets are packed with shoppers buying staple goods and groceries. The roads are teeming with drivers shuffling and scuffling to get where they’re going, with vehicles right up each other’s tailpipes. It’s madness and a bit of chaos.
Outside, it very oddly already sounds like a car is slipping and sliding in the snow… and not a flake has fallen yet! Ah, the anticipation is palpable.
The funny thing is, this is Connecticut. You would think people would be used to this sort of thing here in the Northeast.
It reminds me of when I used to live in Virginia, where there was certainly a bit of fright going on whenever snow was predicted. And snow it did, although that was considerably south of here! I remember a blizzard not that many years ago that put down a good 18 inches or so of snow, and that effectively shut down the area for days.

It’s all about what you’re used to, and what the area can handle. You need the experience dealing with these kinds of storms and the equipment to clear it. It also helps to have some empty, or at least large, parking lots into which to plow the snow.
What will come of this storm that’s just about to break loose? The forecasts range from about five to 10 inches — let’s see if it’s anything like that. You often hear calls for that much snow and end up getting a dusting or a few inches, at best.
And… we’re off! As of 5:45 p.m., the snow has just begun to fall. Where will we end up this time?
Stay safe out there!
