This past year really has me thinking: enjoy all those good moments you have when you have them. Don’t take one single good thing you’ve got for granted!

As I’ve gotten older, something I’ve certainly found is that the things you have that you thought you could always rely on without a care — elements of your health, your physical capabilities and attributes, anything — no, you can’t passively rely on them. I’ve run into issues I just never thought I’d have to deal with, and they surprised me.

This past week, a loved one experienced a major health event sort of out of the blue, though thankfully is now okay and recovering beautifully. But it was another reminder of what I’m talking about.

Cherish those best moments you have when and while you have them. It’s not just “another thing to get through” or deal with to see family, friends, loved ones. Who knows what could be lurking just around the corner? Your whole life could truly change in an instant, and everything could be different… forever.

Not that you can necessarily change all that, but you’re in charge of how you experience each day. Don’t wait for something to sneak up on you and catch you off guard, because things will, and if anything’s a given, that’s it. There are no guarantees in life, no guarantee you’ll even be here tomorrow, and we tend to fall into sleepy ruts where we go through the motions and important things become routine. Try your best not to let that happen. Be grateful for all those good things you have, and recognize and appreciate them while you have them.

Time is all you have, this moment. What will you do with it?
